Old, Repurposed Movie Reviews: Various
July 17th, 2006
X-Men: The Last Stand – and good riddance. Not quite an Abrams, but Ratner is on my list.
Cars – fun. Long. I’m amazed at the beauty Pixar is managing. Go back and compare this to Toy Story and see how vibrant and real the world has become.
The Da Vinci Code – Long. Really long. How you manage to cut out that much of the historical fun and still feel so long, I do not know.
Superman Returns – I love the first hour of this movie. It gets a bit bogged down in the last third, but I forgive its shortcomings for that first hour. Emo Superman rocks!
Over the Hedge – I liked this even more than Cars. Cars is pretty, but this made me laugh for days afterward.
Nacho Libre – es muy malo.
The Devil Wears Prada – Streep, baby.
I have had innumerable male friends and family members sidle up to me and ask if I’ve seen this, looking very trepidatious. When I say I have, they ask what I thought and appear to do so in near terror. I tell them I loved it, and from the look of relief, you’d think I just lanced a boil for them. Somebody who read the book needs to tell me if the “cerulean” speech is in there…it felt like a screenwriter’s addition, and a great one.
