Alas, the maple custard. As detailed among the many reviews on Yelp, this particular slice of pie is considered by many of the regulars to be the pinnacle of the pie-making arts. When I called to check on whether there was any available, they informed me it was gone for good, as in no plans for it to ever return. This was back in September, though, and apparently it’s come racing back. Minus one star for not sating my need the moment it occurred to me to have it. Yes, I’m somewhat petulant. I am glad it has returned for those of you who are local and can easily partake.
The chocolate crostata was all it was advertised to be and more. Deep, rich chocolate flavor, buttery crust, salt and caramel. I wanted another slice directly after eating the first. I have nothing bad to say at all. I have very little to say at all. Really a perfect dessert.
Call this a four-and-a-half-star review, then. The extra half is in anticipation of the next time I can visit, get my elusive slice of maple, and top it off with the crostata.
