This was my first stop during my lost LA food weekend. First because I was most excited? Not exactly. First because it was proximate to Susan Feniger’s Street, though I couldn’t have chosen a better way to kick off the trip.
Part of that was because I’d apparently chosen the hottest September weekend on record to visit, and ice cream was a welcome, cool treat. The other part? Flavor.
The two scoops that I had of this ice cream left me mourning that I didn’t have a local equivalent. Maybe he’ll franchise soon and fix that.
The maple fig is pretty straightforward. It may speak to how tasty the flavor was to know that I tend to enjoy something more exotic and love trying something new. One taste of the deep maple flavor coupled with fig, though, and I needed to have an entire scoop of the stuff. Other novel flavors will have to wait.
Although, come to think of it, pineapple sage probably qualifies as pretty novel. An acidic fruit in ice cream is hard enough to pull off, but the balance between the bright pineapple flavor and the sage was dead on perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a more refreshing scoop to fight off the raging inferno of weather outside.
