Kirkland Signature Premium Cut Cured and Dried Beef Steak Strips
How’s that for a product title mouthful?
I’m always looking for a good way to get a bit of extra protein into my diet. Although I’ve been an avid consumer of the name-brand jerky that Costco carries, I figured that these would be worth giving a try. I am very glad that I did.
The strips are tender and much more easily chewed than even the freshest beef jerky. The flavor is spot-on, with the umami being thrust front and center. In fact, I don’t really have any complaints at all aside from the slimy residue that collects on the inside of the pouch, but that’s something I regularly run across with every dessicated beef product.
It’s worth noting that the bag has instructions to refrigerate it after it’s been open 3 days. I happened to notice this recommendation early on and mine remained refrigerated. When I was picking up a subsequent bag, one of the Costco employees doling out samples of a different product nearby asked if I’d ever had a problem with the steak strips molding. I hadn’t, and asked if she’d noticed the suggestion to refrigerate the bag. She hadn’t, and we speculated that the refrigeration might be the missing factor in her experience. The strips are so tender that it makes some sense that they have a higher moisture content than other beef jerky, and that might make them prone to molding.
